A 1940s Evanston Colonial finds new expression through art, antiques and collected pieces, creating a personal, comfortable home shaped by travel, tradition and an appreciation for the unexpected.

For a couple settling into a 1940s Colonial in Evanston with their two dogs, Christina Conant Design set out to create a home that honored its traditional character while reflecting the couple’s love of travel, art and collected design.

The home’s circular first-floor plan unfolds as a series of distinct yet connected rooms, moving from the living room through the den, breakfast room and kitchen. Christina leaned into the intimacy of the architecture, making thoughtful use of each room while incorporating additional storage and maintaining a sense of openness. Each space was given its own personality, with a sense of continuity throughout.

That individuality comes to life through an eclectic mix of original art, antiques, vintage furnishings and pieces gathered over time. A collection of African masks brings a worldly dimension, while custom rugs and a marble coffee table introduce elements designed specifically for the home. In the formal living room, the original wood-burning fireplace takes center stage, creating a space devoted to conversation and connection.

The finished home brings together traditional architecture, art, antiques and collected pieces with an easy sense of character. Personal and comfortable, the interiors reflect a home meant to continue evolving.

CCD put heart and soul into creating designs and finding pieces that reflected us, not someone else's home from a magazine or social media post.
